Course Description

This course provides an overview of the Emergency Operations Plan (EOP) process. The EOP provides the comprehensive structure and processes used to respond to and recover from an event. Additionally, an EOP supports the ability of healthcare organizations to coordinate information and external resource allocation during an incident.

The course is based on federal guidance and other best practices. By completing this course, healthcare emergency preparedness professionals will learn how to develop an EOP.

The basic EOP defines:

Activating authority
Response procedures (including implementation of HICS)
Procedures for integration with the community-wide response
Recovery strategies
Training, exercises, and plan maintenance

The EOP is one component of the healthcare organization’s overall Emergency Management Plan (EMP) which includes all emergency management activities conducted by the organization.

According to the Joint Commission, all accredited healthcare institutions in the United States must conduct and annually review their Emergency Operations Plan (EOP).

The course is based on federal guidance and other best practices. By completing this course, healthcare emergency preparedness professionals will learn how to develop an EOP.

This course is intended primarily for EMS, hospitals, community health centers, long term care, specialty care or public health personnel involved in emergency preparedness and response efforts. Additionally, the course can benefit any organization hoping to enhance their emergency preparedness efforts and protect staff, stakeholders or patients, and the financial viability of the healthcare organization

Accreditation offered:

This program was designed to meet the requirements of the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing, 244 CMR 5.00 for 1 contact hour of nursing continuing education.

This course is approved for 1 hour of MA OEMS EMT credit at all levels (basic, advanced and paramedic).

Certificates:

In order to receive a Certificate of Training, you must complete the final assessment with a minimum grade of 70%

In conjunction with Boston EMS, a bureau of the Boston Public Health Commission, the DelValle Institute provides high-quality all-hazards training and exercises to develop and enhance capabilities-based preparedness. This training delivery is offered through a contract with the Office of Preparedness and Emergency Management at the Massachusetts Department of Public Health (MDPH), with funding from the Office of Assistant Secretary for Preparedness and Response (ASPR) Hospital Preparedness Program.
