Orientation is the first step to becoming a member of the Boston
MRC and will prepare you to volunteer in an emergency or at a special event
such as the Boston Marathon. The course covers the important role of Boston MRC
members, when and how members are activated, potential functions during an
activation, and how to prepare yourself and your family for an emergency.
Orientation is a pre-requisite for all other Boston MRC trainings, and is
required to volunteer at emergencies or special events.
Naloxone, more commonly known as Narcan, has been credited with reversing
nearly 1,124 overdoses in Boston from October 2016 to May 2017. BPHC offers
education and training to opioid users, their families and community partners
that work or may come into contact with people at risk of overdosing. Participants
learn about the importance of calling 9-1-1 in the event of an overdose, how to
perform rescue breathing and administer nasal Narcan, and treatment options for
opioid users.
