This course provides Boston Medical Reserve Corps volunteers with the information and skills they need to participate in the Boston Athletic Association Injured Runner Tracking Team (IRT) in support of the 2019 Boston Marathon, held on April 15th. The course concludes with a briefing by Boston Public Health Commission staff to prepare volunteers with marathon-specific guidelines and procedures for serving on the IRT team.
Emergency Tracking is conducted in the City of Boston to facilitate incident management, situational awareness, family reunification and overall patient accountability during designated emergency incidents. This emergency tracking system - which uses barcodes, hand scanners, and a web application - can be used to track patients in the event of a Mass Casualty Incident (MCI), as well as to track individuals in the event of a mass dispensing clinic activation, an evacuation and sheltering scenario, or a special event like the Boston Marathon. This information assists pre-hospital providers, hospital, public health & emergency management in the coordination and management of the incident response, and provides support for family reunification services.
