Course Description

This course provides a summary of the purpose and structure of the CHEMPACK program, part of the part of the Strategic National Stockpile (SNS), including details specific to its implementation in Massachusetts. The first module provides a general overview of the CHEMPACK program, including the key roles of agencies involved in the program and a brief explanation of the potential impact of nerve agent incidents. Module 2 uses a response process flowchart to walk through the CHEMPACK procedures in the field and for hospitals, including incident notification, deployment of assets, and patient treatment. Module 3 reviews the responsibilities for host hospitals, including CHEMPACK container storage and maintenance, as well as steps for mobilizing the CHEMPACK assets.

The purpose of this course is to provide awareness of the CHEMPACK program for all first responders, public health and public safety personnel and healthcare professionals who may be involved in responding to a nerve agent incident. This training content helps to ensure an effective and coordinated response to a potential emergency requiring the deployment of CHEMPACK assets in Massachusetts. This online course is a companion training to the detailed, in-person training that is provided by the MDPH SNS Coordinator. It does not provide specific training on tasks, standard operating procedures, local plans, or treatment protocols; it is instead a general overview of how first responders and hospitals are coordinated during a CHEMPACK deployment.

This program was designed to meet the requirements of the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing, 244 CMR 5.00 for 1.8 contact hours of nursing continuing education.
This program was designed to meet the requirements of the Massachusetts Board of Registration for Sanitarians, 255 CMR 5.00 for 1.5 contact hours of continuing education.
This program was designed to meet the requirements of the Massachusetts Board of Registration for Health Officers, 241 CMR 4.00 for 1.8 contact hours of continuing education.
