Develop
the skills necessary to assist individuals in the immediate aftermath of flooding
emergencies and extreme climate events. These skills are suitable for responses
to transit accidents, fires, mass shootings, and acts of terrorism.
Communities exposed to emergencies, both large and small, can
experience impacts to their mental health, in addition to the more obvious
physical injuries. Such impacts can occur from a variety of incidents ranging
from mass casualties, hurricanes and other natural disasters, fires, and other
events. Evidence shows that early provision of psychological first aid can aid
in the individual and community recovery process, ultimately reducing the
long-term impacts on mental health.
This training will provide the basic skills required to provide
Psychological First Aid, as described by the
National Child Traumatic Stress Network.
