The Marathon Use of the Emergency
Tracking System (ETS) course is intended to prepare hospital staff to conduct
and monitor patient tracking during the Boston Marathon. Most of this content
can be generalized to other planned or unplanned events. A quick reference
guide and training videos will be provided to that can be used for training
additional staff at your facility prior to the Marathon day. Following the
training, participants will be directed to the ETS test incident for the
opportunity to practice applying the skills taught in the course.
Emergency Tracking is conducted in the City of Boston to support incident management, situational awareness, family reunification, and overall patient accountability during designated emergency incidents. This emergency tracking system - which uses barcodes, hand scanners, and a web application - can be used to track patients in the event of a Mass Casualty Incident (MCI), at a mass dispensing clinic activation, in an evacuation and sheltering scenario, or a special event like the Boston Marathon.
